SIMULATED STUDY ON POULTRY WASTE ODOR REDUCTION AND MODELLING OF THE ODOR LEVELS USING LEAST SQUARE REGRESSION METHOD

The immediate concern with poultry farming is the odors and the efficacy of control agents. The challenge with most odor control agents is their inability to guaranty long term odor control. In this work the Effect of the mixture of Moringa Oleifera Seed Powder and Ferrous Sulfate Hepta Hydrate on poultry waste odor was studied and a linear model was generated to allow for prediction and control of odor levels at any given time. The Moringa oleifera seed powder (MOSP) and Ferrous sulphate heptahydrate (FSH) were formulated via factorial design approach and tested for their odor control effectiveness on poultry waste. From the trend analysis, it was seen that all the factors and formulations favorably altered the release of odor levels. The odor levels from the best performed formulation, F2 which gave about 53.6% odor reduction, were linearly regressed on the time period according to the method of least squares. The model equation generated was Y = 3.23 0.31x, from which the desired odor level can be predicted for any given time period. The mixture is recommended for its application in odor monitoring and control to mitigate odor in many odor generating facilities as a strategy in environmental pollution control.
